SHACK 207 FIT IN?

editions.lib.umn.edu

The Indian Restaurant was cosy and simple and the food delicious.  When it quietened down the waiter a student of psychology then to physics started a conversation with me.

He was very agitated about the world condition and then rambled on about how the Universe really came into existence, was there a God and how could God let this desperate world of war, bad food and water and so on be tolerated. We discussed free will and then went onto physics and there seemed to be so many contradictions there, religion was just as ambiguous.

Some of his friends came in and we went over the topics afore mentioned, by now you would guessed I went into consciousness the emptiness of atoms and the illusion of it all.

What really hit home was 'who are you---who am I' and all that stuff.  Well I said if you look at the crazy world of conflicts, lack of respect, governments definitely had an agenda that is not for the people then you can never fit in unless you become their role model of agreement and sell yourself to materialism which is here today and gone tomorrow including oneself.

However if one follows the path of nature and the plan of evolution, heaven forbid Darwin and we went into that and they all agreed they did not fit into materialism which would cause shortage and world nature rape and only the powerful and rich survive which was not the same as the survival of the fittest by natures standards. So they asked for a practical example.

Two men camping in bear country a bear comes towards them, Darwin would have it the fastest runner survives(you shouldn't run from a bear) but the answer could be the men split up and go different ways or one man says to the other I can run faster than you so your the bears meal, or let the bear decide which of the two runners in different directions it would chase, or just give up.  They pondered on this.

The big question was not so much who am I but where do I fit in? I suggested that if they found their real self which is not the electrical current produced by cells and built in experience from then onwards and at death extinction or passing on the cells by genetic predisposition.

So we went into consciousness, awareness and the observer and so on and we agreed if one found oneself that also answered where we fit in.
