Wrestling with the devil is often written about in paintings, operas, dramatic plays, films and holy works. Selling one’s soul to
the devil is a prevalent theme as well.
It seems to me the soul is the unbiased
intelligent awareness, the witness and the non judgemental observer observing the
screen of mind and when that gets clouded by the seduction of the glamour and
attractive graphics with super special effects and appear as reality and
tempting to abide in permanently. It is
here that the awareness gets fogged over by the materialism and then gets
snared and trapped in the world of fantasy and make believe.
This world is very adaptable and changeable and
with its composition of digitalised holographic technology can vary and seem to
radically shift from one scenario to another with chain reaction matrices and
they continue even if one is senile, in fact in some way we are all senile as
to who we really are in essence.
So selling one’s soul to the devil is purchasing
the certificate, buying the ticket and obtaining the passport to abject
materialism.
Materialism per se is at most lasting as long as one lasts; this means as long as the awareness is focussed on that then this
becomes one’s life and reality. Releasing one’s focus from this narrow spectrum
and widening the horizon requires an understanding of the trap and an awakening
of a sort, this then frees the mind a tad and the devil begins to loosen its
grip.
The world materialistic hoarding and lust for
power, for war, conquering, needless possessions breeds greed and domination
which are the hallmarks of an inflated ego.
An awakening from this hedonistic dream is
required and maybe shocks and misadventures, disease, job loss, financial chaos
and relationship break ups are ways of doing this as well as the spiritual
quests for this awakening to come about. There many roads leading to home.
